When Veterans Day comes around, it makes me remember some very important things. Of course I remember the bravery and immense national willpower that let us win WWII. We were right in naming them the greatest generation, because the effort was borne by the whole generation of citizens of the Allied powers, not just those who fought the war. But I reserve a special place of thanks to those who served in the Vietnam war, and who stuck it out for the preceding years, through the times when being in the military was regarded as failure, and serving their country was regarded by the public as being a bad cliche' at best and something to be ashamed of at worst. Those are the people who did what they had to do during the hardest times because they knew that the fate of the country rested on them, whether the public knew it or not, and whose dilligence, courage and patience gave us the incredibly positive public perception of the military that we have today. So modern veterans, thank the Vietnam vets, the 80's vets, and all those who suffered so much at the hands of our own public to get us to where we are today. I certainly do.
