"I like you. I really do. But I'm just not ready for a relationship right now. I think I need some time to myself, first."
That phrase has always been the bearer of ill tidings. I've heard it firsthand a fair amount of times, directed at either myself or a friend. Does a relationship ever follow? Never. It's a nice way for someone to tell you they have no interest , so they don't have it hanging on their conscience.
Seriously, it would hurt more at first, but I really think I'd just prefer the truth. I KNOW I would. Don't sugarcoat it.
Thankfully, I'm older at this point. I can read what it means. I know not to keep checking my cell for a missed call, or to do my trademarked overthinking and analyzing. I've moved on from this one.
It truly was better it ended, anyway. It wouldn't have worked. She was strangely...boring. I don't say that out of spite, either. This was a thought I had as we were "dating". The girl isn't passionate about anything. At all. She has no hobbies, is hard pressed to name a favorite film, a favorite album, and she never reads unless she is made to for a class.
The only thing she IS passionate about is her absolute HATRED for Ferris Bueller's Day Off. Come now. How can ANYONE who grew up in the 80's hate that film.
"It's no good pretending that any relationship has a future if your record collections disagree violently, or if your favorite films wouldn't even speak to each other if they met at a party."
Truer words were never spoken, Rob.
