So Friday night was great. I went out with my girlie Meow to Indy for a Drum N' Bass show at this club that I don't even remember the name of. However, the show was awesome. I got to see 3 of the DJ's that were playing and really enjoyed the last 2, particular John B's set. There was some DJ that was on stage right before Jon B that had some crazy dreads and was mixing a really cool blend of drum n' bass that happened to throw some fuckin polka into the mix....I didn't even think it was possible. It was definitely an unexpected and funny twist to his set.
John B's set was very original and by far the best of the evening. I had not been exposed to his music before Friday, and I must say that I am now a fan after seeing the performance. It was cool getting to hang out with him before and after the show. Thanks to Meow getting recruited by the show's promoters to announce the act and promote SG, we got to take the limo over with him to the show and get free drinks through out the evening. I did a fairly good job of pacing myself, however, the drink did get the best of me in the end. I don't normally drink much Vodka, but it was free flowing and I took maximum advantage of that fact. I met so many people that are all now just faces...no names to associate to any of them except John and the show's promoters. What killed me was on the limo ride back, I drank to what amounted to a whole glass of Goldschlager in rapid fashion. I had about half a glass left of my own from the ride over to the show, which I downed. And then proceeded to drink the rest of John's glass. Moments later John asked me where his drink was and I had to confess that I "sort of drank it all".
Overall, the night went smooth and was a great way to spend a Friday....and I owe it all to my girlie and the promoter's that hired her for the gig.
I managed to get a decent amount of pictures from the evening, but was badly handicapped by my moderately priced camera. It's not great for pictures in low light conditions as it likes to blur everything if its not mounted on a tripod...so I compensated by using the night flash setting which does a flash burst and captures light tracers any time the camera is moved within that burst. Its good for some cool effects, but I really would like to invest some money in a professional grade camera and lenses. There are so many moments when I could get excellent shots if I had a camera worth using for them. $1500 dollars from now, I could have one. I'm thinking that will have to be a goal for next year....
