Not sure how many of you have read the story of Anna Sorokin but shes facing up to 15 years in prison for grand larceny. I've read about her case twice now and both times all I've been able to learn is that she tricked and swindled some of the rich that were part of the culture she was trying to break into, and she convinced them to fund her essentially.
So arguably, yeah maybe a bit of a con-woman. But 15 fucking years for what? Having fooled and embarrassed dragons within their own dens? Pedophiles often get a fraction of this jail time. Rapist frat boys typically see none. Makes it increasingly difficult to take the justice system of the alleged Leader of the First World seriously when it's so glaringly obvious the entire system is rigged.
Maybe there's something I'm missing here. Maybe I'm too detached and segregated from this, being a white male Canadian who would likely be in an advantageous position in your courts but also as an outside observer. That all said and done I really do have to say how fucked up American culture is to perceive as an outsider. Perhaps it is due to sensationalist media but with each passing day the USA resembles something more akin to Grand Theft Auto VR than the reality we've come to understand.
I don't know just needed to vent I guess. Maybe I'm totally wrong about Sorokin. Maybe she is total human trash and I'm writing some potential white knight defense for someone who could somehow even turn out to be a Russian agent (wild speculation but weirder things have happened).
But really at the end of the day I think it's just how offensive and corrupt the American Justice system has become. I don't say offensive lightly, like just another "triggered milennial" but the entire system truly is fucking abhorrent. Feels like all too often some of the most guilty get walked right out the front door, and yet how many hundreds, if not thousands of innocents have been rung up on false charges and currently sit in a hole for someone's profit, which in turn feeds "artificial" economic inflation making life outside the prison harder still for everyone else who is not yet wealthy. Entire system broken.
