When I first heard Brooklyn 9-9 was going to do a #MeToo episode, I thought they were finally going to address the way Gina talks to Terry.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not shitposting Gina. She's one of my favourites, and my favourite thing about her is how confident and shame-free she seems in her sexuality. Definitely an archetype I'm so down to watch.
No, my complaint is the double standard in the presentation of hormonal reactions in terms of lust. A female character gets horny and the standard reaction now is "yeah you go girl, women empowerment! Suck that dick for the plight of women everywhere!" and I'm 100% on board. There's nothing wrong with embracing and enjoying your sexuality (when it's healthy).
My point is simply that I wish we could go back to having male characters that can also be as casually lustful without outrage at every turn. Gina can literally discuss schemes to entrap Terry into adultery, but were another female character to be dressed provocatively and a male character to react it's immediately debased as objectification of women, among other trigger terms. The last time I can remember a male character being able to openly embrace his sexuality without negative connotations is never because it's literally never been presented equally. Barney from HIMYM is as close as it gets, and he's literally the show's villain during his promiscuity. That and it was only accepted because NPH is such a lovable gay dude.
If Gina had a dick B99 never woulda got past the pilot
