The first time I ever went to California, I found these pretty wildflowers I'd never seen before. They were white with a perfect yellow circle in the center, a piece on each petal. The boy didn't know what they were, and there wasn't anyone else to ask. It was April, and I didn't go back again until July. By then they were gone. The next year I forgot to look for them until it was too late again.
I just found them. And scoured the internet for the last hour looking at various wildflower pictures trying to I.D. them.
They're called meadowfoam or Douglas' meadowfoam. Limnanthes douglasii.
