I guess a new blog entry is required just to prove that I still exist.
A lot has changed since my last real entry way back in November. I am no longer working in my old local down on the coast and I am now back in London full time. The job down South was just a little too close to home as I was a friend of the landlord (and a lot of customers) before I started working there. As the pub was a fairly small, community sort of place it made it difficult to find a place I could whinge about work. Everybody needs to do that nor and then even when work is on the whole pretty good. It had also become pretty apparent that I was never going to get anywhere there, a business that small doesn't offer a lot of scope for promotion. So I decided to leave which I think was best for both me and the business as I was beginning to get quite dispirited which isn't good in a role that is essentially all dealing with the public.
I have since moved up to work in a pub in London near where the flat is (but in a much, MUCH, nicer area). It is part of a huge group and they seem to emphasise training and promoting from within which is what I want. I still love working in the pub trade, I just needed some opportunities to progress. Unfortunately as I am now starting from the bottom again I am really struggling for money. I am hoping that it will be one step back for several forward in the end but that doesn't make things any easier right now. Fortunately my parents are supporting my decision so long as I am confident that this is what I really want to do and they will probably top me up with funds when needed. It feels a bit embarrassing to be borrowing money from my folks when I am thirty but hopefully it won't be happening for long.
The new job seems good but I've only been there two weeks which makes it hard to tell. I am enjoying being back in London all the time, seeing Kaikai more then two nights a week is definitely a plus. Because I have been dividing my time between two cities for so long I don't really feel that I have much of life up here though, I need to get out a bit more and start making some friends in North London. That won't be easy without much money though. Not working as much as previously is costing me money already as I tend to drink when I am bored, getting out more won't keep the bank balance in check.
That is enough serious stuff for now.
Here's some fun stuff.
Saw Wild Flag a few weeks ago. Awesome.
In order to show no Sleater-Kinney split favouritism here is a song from Corin Tucker.
