EXT. HOLLYWOOD BLVD - NIGHT
It is tourist season and Hollywood is teeming with tourists of all shapes and sizes. We start wide as the POV pushes down from a helicopter type shot and swoops across the blvd to finall stop at eye level looking straight down the street - the lights glistening as people walk past the camera - some talking, others taking snapshots - people looking at the names embedded in the pavement.
Slowly the Camera pans to the right. Maintaining eye level it continues ever slowly panning across the street - the sidewalk on the other side and then ends at 270 from our original position - or directly camera left.
EXT. ALLEY ON HOLLYWOOD BLVD - CONTINUOUS
The camera is still at eye level looking straight down the alley. The shadows move slightly and the crowds and city noise slowly get pushed to the background as a figure moves forward out of the shadows. Walking slowly towards camera a slim figure with shockingly red hair stops right in front of the camera. We remain still as the young girl looks left and right - piercings noticeable on her brow and lip - her short red shorn hair looking sightly unkempt. She is wearing a black hoody and a jacket over that and looks to be in her late teens.
The girl looks one last time around and steps purposely to her left as she walks out of frame.
CUT TO:
EXT. HOLLYWOOD BLVD - ACROSS THE STREET - CONTINUOUS
A young man stands with his friends in front of Manns Chinese Theatre debating which film they should see.
CHRIS
Come one guys - its Manns - you have to see whatever is playing - its the *experience* of the thing, not the film itself.
Standing across from him, Jason turns and sighs
JASON
Yeah, but this is going to suck..
CHRIS
Well, you guys sort it out.
Chris steps away from the theatre, showing some annoyance at having driven the tourists down to see hollywood and then have them complain. Jason and another friend - richard - start discussing whether they should just hit some club when Chris notices the young girl across the street - her shock of red hair drawing his attention. She glances in his direction - notices that he is looking at her and she pulls her hood over her head and head down starts walking faster.
CHRIS
(barely audibe - to himself)
What the..
RICH
Okay, well whatever you guys want to do..
JASON
Well, i can tell you im not going to pay for this piece of crap - so lets get..chris?
Jason notices Chris starting across the street
RICH
Shes hot.
CHRIS
(turning to them)
..what the fuck, i know her - she looks totally familiar..
JASON
So what are we going to do? want to get a drink?
Chris is still for a moment, lost in thought - the world continues to stream by as folks in costumes entertain the passing tourists. The camera slowly rises above the crowd - jason and rich still discussing where they go - chris turning back to them all in real-time as the crowd passes by faster and faster - streaks of light for headlights in the background - the camera rising slowly still - chris, richard and jason moving at normal speed as everything accelerates past them. The camera now above the street lamps starts to tilt up to the horizon and then the sky - the clouds streaming past and the moon pushing over - lights flickering as they go out and we hold as daylight quickly approaches - we flash dissolve with a swell in the music to:
DISSOLVE TO:
INT. CHRISS APARTMENT - SUNLIGHT STREAMING IN THROUGH WINDOW
Loud buzzing is heard and we are tight on a mobile phone. The image is flashing an image of an alarm - we pull the camera out slowly as a hand picks it up off the floor and hits the button turning it off.
Chris gets up out of bed slowly - pulling the covers off. Wearing a t-shirt and boxer shorts he gets up and yawns. We can see someone lying in bed beside him as he gets up.
CHRIS
(stifling a yawn)
..you first Cynth?
A quiet muttering you could only take as negation and Chris gets up and walks out of frame revealing a shock of red hair on the figure in the bed.
A moment passes and the figure rolls over revealing it is the same girl on the street, sans facial rings.
CUT TO:
INT. CHRISS APARTMENT - LIVING ROOM
XCU on a telephone - very modern. In fact, slightly more modern than current phones - perhaps a video screen or something. It rings.
Back to bedroom closeup on cynthia, eyes still closed.
CYNTHIA
Christ.
CUT TO:
EXT: PHONE BOOTH - BUSY METROPOLITAN STREET, COULD BE ANYWHERE - DAY
A man stands inside a phone booth, his back to us - we arent sure who it is, but he is obviously agitated
MAN
Cmon - pick up. For fucks sake.
CUT TO:
INT. CHRISS APARTMENT
Camera is above the bed - Cynthia rolls over on her back. the sound of the shower and the phone overtop as she puts her hands to her head and sighs.
Phone continues to ring. 3 times now.
4 times. Cynthia starts to get up.
CYNTHIA
Fuck it.
She jumps out of bed and runs into the living room and makes a dive for the phone.
CYNTHIA
Hello?
MAN
Its going to happen. Again.
CYNTHIA
What are you talking about? Who is this?
MAN
Listen, there is nothing i can do to stop it - just go - anywhere - somewhere away from where you would normally be!
CYNTHIA
I dont know who you are, but i think you have the wrong number..
CUT TO:
EXT. PHONEBOOTH - DAY
MAN
For fucks sake just listen to me for 5 seconds. go - get out of there and dont go back. Walk away from everything and just go. GO.
CYNTHIA
Okay, this isnt funny. I am going to hang up now
On now cynthia drops the phone onto the receiver shrugs her shoulders and walks out of frame. The camera stays on the shot as things change. First the table shifts position - some objects on it get removed, replaced - then faster - the image warps and distorts as objects flicker in and out of existence. The couch changes - the paint changes - its as if we are seeing the room pass through changes - different furniture - different paintings - carpet - everything.
Its gets faster and faster - manic even and then with a rush it stops.
The room looks identical to the way the shot began.
The phone rings.
