The climate is very similar to where you are. The San Juan Islands in Washington State in the Queen Charlotte Islands off of B.C. are supposed to be some of the best paddling in the world. The pacific northwest is awesome I'm probably taking my canoe out fishing today.... in a man made lake, not quite the same...

I am fond of editing my journal after the first few responses. I gauge the reaction, see if I was misunderstood or if I should clarify something, then change my journal so I can be sure it expresses what I want it to.

I've broken something like 14 or 15 bones, but I've never needed nor gotten stitches. Funny
We took in a couple of good movies over the last couple of weeks , one being 'Crash' which I was pleasantly surprised with considering the title and Sandra Bulloch being in the lineup [ another smashem up movie ?] But twas a real emotional rollercoaster with some excellant acting , set in LA of all places . [Kinda explains the dysfunctional characters though! ]...

uptight:
a) I am British - so I'm allowed to slag us off
b) It wasn't the British who established the "Jewish State" - it was Moses!!!
c) The British fucked up anyway because they gave 79% of the area to an Arab tribe they imported from Saudi Arabia!!!
d) You said "it's not antisemitism, it's prohuman rights".
Israel is a progressive country with an excellent record on human rights considering the fact that it has been at war for its entire existance. Better than some Western countries!
But even if Israel was a big human rights abuser (which it isn't) but if it was, then why is there no boycott of Zimbabwe, Saudi, Iran, Jordan, Syria, North Korea, Sudan etc.?
Why just Israel?
You might argue that this boycot is about showing solidarity with the Palestinian nationist movement - but why are they not boycotting Russia for the Chechnyans? Why not boycott Sri Lanka for the Tamils? Why didn't they boycott Saddam's Iraq for the Kurds? Why not boycott Turkey for the Kurds & why not boycott China for the Tibetans?
Why just Israel?
Sorry Fringes - facts are facts: they are SINGLING OUT Israel, and however you try to justify it, you can't deny this obvious prejudice and discrimination.
The question is WHY are they prejudiced against Israel?
What makes the (world's only) "Jewish State" worthy of such treatment when there much worse regimes in the world?
Perhaps it isn't antisemitism. Perhaps they just don't like Israel's flag. Perhaps they don't like Israeli pop music (it is awful).
Or perhaps they ignorantly, and racistly perceive this as a "rich white men vs. poor brown men" dispute?
In truth - this boycott isn't antisemitism....well not conscious, deliberate anti-semitism anyway...but even unconscious prejudice is still prejudice.
Like many other left wing detractors of Israel, these academics are just idiots who want to look cool by adopting a "fashionable revolutionary movement".
They just DON'T CARE that with their ignorance & hate-filled discrimination against the "Jewish State" is effectively antisemitic.
It's time to start thinking from both sides. It's time for the left to start being FAIR AND BALANCED in their arguements against Israel. It's time for them to stop singling out Israel. It's time for them to stop choosing Israel as "the enemy" while ignoring much worse regimes.
If they don't , then the best they can hope for is to be regarded as ignorant, biased hypocrites.

If only my life was a perfect as a sunset...sure that 'fake' shooting star represented dashed hopes and unfufilled wishes, but I have learned the hard way it is not always good to get what you wish for...
my father used to always tell me that "a closed mind is a dying mind"...
