i went to the cenotaph this morning, for remembrance day. i wanted to pay my respect to the local fallen heroes who died for my freedom. well, why they really marched off to their death is another topic of discussion, but i ain't gonna dis them or the price they paid.
anyway, all of the God talk started to get on my nerves, but then i looked around and realized there were a lot of old folks there. religion means shit to me, but back in their day, it was much more significant for many people. again, not my cup of tea (*nods to a local pasttime*), but i'll respect those who choose such a path. i defer at times like these.
ack! so many tangents... where was i going with this? oh yeah... the old folks... it was very stirring to see so many people shaking and crying as the various wreaths were being laid. grannies and grandpops remembering their lost husbands, children, siblings, parents, friends... it really brought home the power of war and loss.
what a shame there weren't more of the younger generations there.
