I thought I would share something a little different this time. This is an old poem I wrote when I was 17, I think? It was after a dream I had in which I met an older me that gave me some life advice.
With a more complex rhyming pattern (A/A, B, C, A/A, B, C), I still like the tempo this flows to, and the imagery it portrays. Plus, a very positive message that I sometimes think about and use to course correct my life with, especially in hard times. It is pertinent today, for me.
I hope you like it.

This Future Scene
----
Started to see, whom I will be
Liked the eyes I looked in to
Was pleased with the face that I saw
The future of me, sat within he
A determination seen in so few
There was a fine set to his jaw
----
He held up his head, and unto me he said
“There are many rigorous tasks to come
And our eyes will see excess pain
We’ll mourn for the dead, and the loss in their stead
Many will fall, your friends will be some
But I assure you, my self, it shall not be in vain”
----
“Victory you will hold, in your person so bold
Passion will grip you like skin
And your love shall feel so abound
Never shall you fold, to the horrors so cold
Never shall you dip into sin
Even when you lay on the ground”
----
“The me of my past, please hold so steadfast
Fight till you are out of breath
And then kick with whatever shall remain
Till at the last, with the final blow cast
You will be close to death
And you will have everything to gain”
----
“It is from this position, you’ll kill indecision
You’ll see, at last, your true path
And get up and walk into glory
So make it your mission, to set for collision
Of horror and sorrow and wrath
Me here to see you tells the rest of the story”
----
I smiled in his face, the me in his place
A grin that encompassed my heart
And a joy that held me aloft
For he held all the grace, he had won the race
Had conquered each and every part
Hardened as he was, he as me still had capacity for soft
----
I watched him leave, stopped to just breathe
To consider his words unto me
To think of what it shall mean
I did not grieve, for it is, I believe,
True, that again I shall see he
From the other side of this future scene.
