What is your favourite Anime?
(Well, look at me: finally doing a Blog Homework when it is still somewhat relevant. I’m almost proud of myself and my ability to stay modern.)
Short answer: Your Lie in April.
Long answer: I didn’t grow up watching Anime. Not that I didn’t want to, but because I couldn’t. It made me nauseous and gave me a wicked headache. It had to do with framerate changes that my eyes would detect and give me a form of motion sickness. Which was no fun, considering that I wanted to watch Anime, but it was out of reach.
Years passed, and Anime modernized to the new broadcasting standard of 29.97 and NTSC and the problem went away for me. I never knew that it did at the time, because I had turned my interests away from Anime by that point. Friends would recommend them to me, and I would just turn them down.
Until finally, one day maybe 7 years ago, I gave in to the pressure and tried out a new (at the time) series entitled “Attack on Titan.” It blew me away. I saw it like a modernization of zombie movies, but as giants instead of human sized. I loved it and watched it through the first season, eagerly awaiting the next ones. Which, by the way, eventually lost my interest. But those first couple of seasons… worth it.
Once the flood gates to Anime opened, I watched a lot more. None really caught my interest until I watched “Your Lie in April.” What a beautiful and sad and lovely series that was. It was so heartfelt and original that I have to say that I love it. If you haven’t seen it, I recommend it. It's about young musicians and love.
Next one to catch my attention was “One Punch Man.” To see a Superhero take like that was just a breath of fresh air. It made me laugh out loud more than once and I quite enjoyed it. What would you do, if you were pretty much unbeatable?
Finally, the last one that held my interest for a while before it lost me in later seasons, was “Sword Art Online.” It took a direction I have rarely seen in shows and did it very well. Think: stuck in VR fantasy gaming and if you die in there you die in real life.
I am certainly not an expert in Anime, but I will tell you who is. @valkyria , She owns her own Anime Store and you really should check out her answers to this blog post.
Anyway, thank you for reading, my friends and future friends!
