Recently, someone whom I care for and remains a good friend, inspired me to start writing poetry again.
I used to write a lot of poetry when I was younger, but it stopped when I was married, except for one every year or two, if the mood hit me. A couple more back when I got divorced and nothing until a few weeks ago. I’ve since written 7, which is more than I’ve written in over a decade.
I’m trying really hard to not only open up my creative/artistic side once more, but also to be brave enough to share it publicly. To that end, I’d like to share one of my new ones. It’s less “lovey” or “dirty” than my usual fare, and more in line with my personal philosophies. I really hope someone likes it, or this will be a short journey for me.
Please be Kind
Kindness is knowing that they are lying,
knowing that they are playing at a con,
trying to abuse your better nature,
and to force you over to where they are.
Yet your heart and soul still keep on trying,
to show them love, understanding, and calm.
Wanting them to find a better future.
Wanting their successes to take them far.
If they seek the bottom and never grow;
if they attack your enduring resolve;
if their guilt, shame, or hate becomes your fault;
if they choose to boldly cross your limit;
You’ll cry, you’ll sigh, you’ll hurt and you will know,
this may or may not be one still to solve,
You’ll take the loss with a sad grain of salt,
and keep going, kindness can survive it.
