After 10 years of fuckin' around, I finally made that big step today, to officially get back into music. I guess meeting so many guitarists - talented, known or obscure - woke my creative innerself up and made me realize the frustration of not having been active since my departure from France.
These 10 years of abstinence have been good since I ended up opening my mind to so many different styles of music. I can now mix these various influences, rather than getting stuck into one boring cliched pose--new wave/indus/electro when I was a teenager.
While it's been hard to play guitar again, the most exciting thing is learning how to use Reason, which I started tonight, and will allow me to have an entire band replaced by a software -- no, it's not gonna sound like some cheesy clavinova since it's the software Prodigy and Reznor have been using. Experience with 80's "stone age" drum machines has been useful since I was able to go through all the drum programming process tonight -- the 2 madras I prepared might also have given me a good "kick".
Enough excitement for today. Il est l'heure de se coucher.

I ended up in OC by chance. I had honestly thought I was going to live in Santa Monica, but the prices were too high for me when I first moved out here (I had no job). So while I was out visiting for a week looking for a place, I got in my car and just started driving. I happened to exit on Jamboree and happened to find a place I could afford. I've been stuck ever since. I always think about moving to San Diego or LA, but my job is good so it's hard to leave. Someone needs to help me get unstuck!
Cool that you're getting back into music. You'll have to upload something for us to check out once you really get going...
