Night 1
I went straight home after work and packed up. It was very hurried
and so i forgot quite a few items.
I met up with Jessy and her brother at Surrey Central skytrain
station. We departed for Kelowna straight after. Got to Westbank in
2 hours even with a subway stop and several pee stops. Of course,
Jessy was driving at 210 most of the way and even went as
fast as 220.
Sean warned Jess that i like Sheryl Crow and she made me a
CD. Sweet!
I spent most of the trip staring at the stars and sleeping.
the air was nice and cool.
When we got closer to Kelowna (penticton?) we saw an orange blaze on
the top of a far off hill. I'd describe it as a hill but i know
others who'd describe it as a mountain. I dunno. I'm used to sharp
pointy mountain tops. Anything round is considered a shield to me.
Vancouver has a lot of mountains and the tops are all very, very
pointy.
I believe that there are over 20something forest fires in BC right
now. That's actually not so bad when compared to the summer before
last.
Anyway, we arrived around midnight-ish. I shared a bunk bed with
Jess. She was like "I call bottom!"
Andrew and I gave her a weird look. We were like, "Who calls bottom?!"
I have pics of the room we stayed in.
We fell asleep around 1 am.
The rooster woke us up at 4 am.
Sooooo annoying.
Day 1
I felt Jess move from underneath me at quarter to 5. Our bunkbed was
really shaky and everytime one us moved, the entire bed rocked.
"Hey. Jess."
"Yeah?"
"Are you sleeping?"
"No. The fucking rooster won't shut up."
I laugh. "Is that what it is? Shit! I thought roosters only
crowed once or twice! That thing's been going at it for over half an
hour!"
we giggle some more and talk some more. I think we woke up the entire
house this way. Or at least Anthea.
We were in the kitchen by 5:30. Ate some toast, put on some shoes,
and we dragged our weary asses to the truck. I think we were on the
road come 6 am. But we kept getting in the truck only to realize that
we had forgotten something. We also had to rearrange our seating
assignments and Ange had to feed the pets (chickens and the like).
"I call right side back seat!!!" - Jessy
Andrew and I gave her another weird look. He said, "Why so exact?"
and I said, "That was specific..."
We passed by a bunch of pretty lakes. Unfortunately, the only one i
remember the name of is Kalamalka. This is because someone had been
explaining to me that the word means "Lake of Many Colours."
We boarded a very interesting cargo ferry. Jess and Anthea fell in
love with a rottweiler.
The lake we were on looked like glass. It was just so ridiculously
smooth. It felt like i could step on it. As if i could float on it.
We eventually docked and drove off to the Hot Springs. This is no
easy task. I made a video of how rocky the road was. Monty's
skilled, though.
We were in the middle of nowhere.
We went down to the creek and explored the hot springs. Checked the
crowds (only a few other people were down there) and the temperature.
It was so beautiful. The water, the scenery, the air;
everything.
Hiked back up to the truck to grab some lunch. Mmmmmmm. Yummy sandwiches.
Hiked back down with our towels.
Ange, Monty and Andrew made a detour for the falls. Anthea, Jessy and
I directly headed over to the springs. Although, Jessy and Anthea
hopped in waaaaay before i did cuz i was quite tempted to go swimming
in the extremely cold glacier fed creek. Jess convinced me that the
water was grand so i kicked off my shoes, put my camera aside, and
waded in.
It was fantastic.
There were hot and cold spots. Pictures were taken and will be posted.
I found a piece of wood with sulphur in it that i've kept. Actually,
Jess found it but I wanted to keep it.
We spent a LOT of time in the hotsprings. I was ridiculously pruney.
In fact, there was a good 20 minute were i sat there with my hands in
the air because i was determined to deprunitize them. (Yes, i made
that word up. I think.)
Many pictures were taken. I believe the name of the Hot Springs is
Nakusp, but i could also be very mistaken.
There was a lot of wandering afterwards. Several, several hours
later, we hiked back up to the truck for dessert. Jess and I had two
helpings of cake. It was friggin delicious.
After cake, we hiked over to the falls. The same ones that Monty,
Ange and Andrew were looking at. I think.
We had a fair idea of how cold it was. Simply because we knew how
cold the creek was. FUCKING COLD! But we saw this guy swimming. I
was tempted. Anthea and I contemplated this until Monty started
kicking off his shoes. Basically, if he was going to do it, then
nothing would stop me. No matter how cold the water was. I just
wanted proof that the water wouldn't kill me. Monty jumped right in,
but i slowly eased myself in. As soon as i did, i dunked myself and
swam desperately for shore. It was soooo cold!!!!
The water looks great from atop, but as soon as I get in, the only
thought in mind is "Get out! Get out!!!!! GET OUT!!!!!!!"
It was beautiful, though. And so very clear. We filled up a jug of
water with glacier water. IT was cold, clear and had sporadic
particles of minerals inside. Well, it was either minerals or
bacteria. Meh. I honestly don't care and would drink that water all
day, every day.
There were many fishes, and i believe I've already written a small
entry about all this, so i'll skip a lot of it. I also saw a couple
tadpoles and toads.
I wish i could jump into water like that after every hike. It sounds
try-hard to say that it was refreshing, but it was.
Night 2
Everyone was basically asleep on the ride home.
Monty bought a GIANT pizza.
I had a slice, it was basically like a little cube. 3x3x3. At the
same time, it was much larger than any sandwich i can remember eating.
And meatier. Much meatier.
Jess went to bed before i did. I didn't want to wake her up by
climbing on to the top bunk so i set up camp on the couch by Andrew's.
Anthea kept us company.
We were still talking about random sleep deprived things come 3:30 am.
The woodstove rocked my socks. I love that thing. It kept us warm
through most of the night.
Day 2 - also known as Monday
Slept in.
Woke up to find that Anthea had taken over the other couch and Andrew
was sleeping on the floor.
Went to a lake.
Visited Jessy's grandparents.
I was supposed to meet the other set as well, but they weren't home.
However, this did not stop us from sneaking into their pool and
fooling around for a couple hours.
We weren't really all that sneaky since the neighbour caught us. But
she recognized Andrew so all was good.
Went out for dinner. HALIRIOUS! I don't know whether it was the
Pen15 or random conversation, but i thoroughly enjoyed myself. We
went to a place called Montana's. I had the quesedilla. I swear, i
always seem to order quesedillas or caesar salads.
It's odd to reflect on that meal. We were all originally craving
seafood, but none of us ordered any. huh.
Ummmm. Went home.
NIGHT 3
Campfire.
I watched a movie because as you can tell from reading DAY 2, I was
pretty fucking out of it. From not getting any sleep, i guess. I
mean, I know that if i pull 2 allnighters in a row, I'll start getting
random chills the next day. I break into cold sweats and all sorts of
nastiness. Top Gun.
I smoked up with Monty and Ange.
Slept on the couch again because Dominique came back from visiting
Vancouver. She usually sleeps on the top bunk. Having both girls
meant almost no sleep.
So Anthea, Andrew and I ended up sharing her twin size bed. Ange has
a pic of that. I'll post it once I get ahold of it.
I woke up super late. We ate breakfast, hung around, and then started
on our way home.
The End!
Or something like it.
