I went on a date with Jody today. We couldn't decide which restaurant we wanted to go to. It was a choice between Mercato and Brava Bistro. So, instead we went to both. Rather than getting a big meal at one place we decided to get an appetizer each and hit both restaurants in one night. It was a brilliant idea.
After getting stuck in god awful traffic we were late starting our walk to Mercato. Thankfully we were only a few minutes late for the reservation and in the mood for food and drinks. Jody ordered the caprese salad. I ordered the tuna carpaccio. The caprese salad was delicious. We'd had it before but still... man... good times. Great little tomatoes and probably the best buffalo mozzarella ever. Really simple and really good. The tuna came with salsa verde, lemon aoli and some fennel. I could have done without the fennel but the tuna was really good.
The walk to Brava was delightful. It was a bit cooler than the walk down to Mercato. I really went for one reason. The lobster poutine. Not really that much of the lobster but I so didn't care. Great fries, mascarpone cheese and delicious seafood butter sauce. I've got to admit, it was a bit rich and I'm glad it was all I ordered. I never would have been able to eat anything else on top of it. Probably could have handled another Manhattan... but no more food. Jody's asparagus and mushroom brushetta was also delicious. And full of butter. A lot of butter. You know, like all good things should be.
On the walk home Jody made me listen to "Back in the New York Groove". We happened to walk by an apartment building with some hipster looking kids sitting on their balcony. One of them waved so I waved back. Then one of them yelled "you guys are romantic!". It was pretty fucking awesome.
And then Jody played "The System is Down" and we walked the last three blocks home laughing.
Now, if you'll excuse me I'm going to have a drink and probably watch some shitty Law and Order.
