I guess it's been two weeks now. Time for an update.
Holidays went fairly well. Went out to visit Jody's family on Christmas Eve. Had a nice dinner with her family. I was introduced to "green stuff" which is apparently pistachio pudding, whipped cream and... err... stuff I'm not forgetting. It was far better than it sounds. I also have to point out that her grandparents have the best retro basement ever. Hideously awesome carpet, a shuffleboard table, a bar with homemade rock walls. And, of course, the best part is the old school record player/pull out bar. I wish we had taken pictures. I fear my explanation would not do it justice. Jody's parents gave me some nice cookbooks which I will be putting to good use in the future.
Christmas Day we drove out to my parents' house to have Christmas with them and my brothers. There is nothing better than spending the whole day sitting around in pyjamas, drinking wine and watching TV. Top that off with more food than was probably healthy and I am completely satisfied. I came away with not one but two stand mixers, confirming that my parents and my girlfriend are completely fantastic. I also got a new camera which I haven't used at all. Haven't really been out much and it seems somewhat overdone to fill my journal full of pictures of the cats.
New Years was a bit of a let down. I worked and by the time I was finished, went home, ate, changed and got ready to go out it was almost midnight. Went to a party at a friend's apartment but it was far too loud and full of people I didn't know. Ended up bailing shortly after and coming home to watch Buffy. Ah well.
Canada is on their way to winning the World Junior hockey tournament again. I'm missing the gold medal game tonight because I have to work. Lame. I'm really looking forward to putting an end to this whole "working 6 nights a week" thing. I'm tired of being antisocial and missing out on fun things because I'm too busy sitting in my car or behind a desk.
Random things:
- I could waste entire days playing NHL 09 and be perfectly happy.
- I haven't listened to most of the records being put on the Best of 2008 lists. The few I have heard I really didn't care for. The only record I can think of getting this year that I was really excited about was the Thursday/Envy split.
- I'm pretty sure I ended 2008 in the worst shape I've been in since living in Toronto. That has got to change.
- People I know are getting married and having kids with greater frequency. It's... odd.
