Sorry for keeping you waiting so long. Things have been... hectic. I've been a little bit distracted.
FreakPirate's Choir Tour Journal 2007
Day 5: Whitehorse, Yukon - Teslin, Yukon
SPOILERS! (Click to view)Teslin is a tiny fucking place. But man... did they ever go out of their way to make us feel welcome. The only sign in the whole town was advertising our concert. They fed us a really nice meal at the community hall which had the most amazing view ever. They had a huge bank of windows looking over the lake. Just awesome. Unfortunately... I had a shitty day. Over the course of the week a few people (including myself) got a bit of a rash, likely from shitty water and sleeping on floors. One of my friends bought some antihistamines to make things more comfortable. Foolishly... I took some. Now, I don't normally take pills of any kind because I don't tend to react well to them. This was no different. I got the spins like a motherfucker and just about passed out a few times during the concert. I yelled at
pearlygirl at some point (sorry dear...) and was generally miserable to everyone. Slept on yet another rec centre floor. Or rather... tried to sleep. Didn't have much success.
Day 6: Teslin, Yukon - Fort Nelson, British Columbia
SPOILERS! (Click to view)Hotel Night. First of all, a quick explanation of Hotel Night. One night of the tour, we're all put up in a hotel to allow us to get cleaned up, relax and have a good sleep. Generally, people get fucked up and make fools of themselves. This year was no exception. Within 15 minutes of entering our room,
misguided, Mike and I all have drinks and are taking in our wonderful surroundings. The hotel we stayed in was perfect. The choir took up almost all of the hotel so no one would really be disturbed by a bunch of idiots running around drunk at 3 AM. And they were...
We had a nice chat with our conductor. A whole group of us went out for dinner and drinks. And then back to the hotel to party. I'll be completely honest... my memories of the evening aren't completely clear. I did have a lot to drink (as I discovered the next morning when most of my 40 of rum was gone...). There was a lot of yelling. Some people (Mike) ran their heads into things and carried other people (
pearlygirl) around the hotel claiming to be "a raging buffalo". Others (me) tried to keep drunk idiots (Mike) from calling their girlfriends at 4 AM and failed. Eventually
pearlygirl and
carla managed to get everyone settled down and into their beds for the night. I had a blast and I think most of the other people did as well.
Day 7: Fort Nelson, British Columbia - Dawson City, British Columbia
SPOILERS! (Click to view)I really have nothing memorable to say about this day... If anything comes to mind I'll be sure to let you know.
Day 8: Dawson City, British Columbia - Valleyview, Alberta
SPOILERS! (Click to view)And now the last day. Well, the last day with a concert at least. We show up at the school in Valleyview ridiculously early and set everything up. After that we have a couple of hours of free time. Thankfully there were wireless networks to pirate and some of us were able to catch up on the week that they had missed. A couple hours after we got to the school
Michele and
glass_cat showed up. I celebrated a little.
The concert was fantastic (except for some unsupervised kids running around on the bleachers). As expected, a lot of people were very emotional. After spending a week with a group of people you get pretty attached to them and it kinds of sucks realizing that the whole grand experience is coming to an end. This is especially true for the people who were leaving the choir and wouldn't be doing it again next year. This, unfortunately, included some of my very good friends (including Mike) and so I was a little emotional as well. People cried. Yes... including me. We sounded amazing. I really couldn't have asked for a better final concert.
And then... one last big bash before going home and saying goodbye for the summer. Lots more drinks consumed. Skits performed. Speeches made. More tears shed.
Day 9: Valleyview, Alberta - Edmonton, Alberta
SPOILERS! (Click to view)The trip home. Rather than spending more time on the bus I traded spots with
glass_cat and got a ride back to Edmonton with
Michele. We had a nice talk, sang along to some music. I napped a bit... apparently... I still deny that it happened. After getting home... I pretty much crashed. Nine days of shitty sleep take their toll.
This update isn't nearly as much fun as I had hoped but honestly... I'm still a little distracted.
On the up side, I have a job interview at the Mayfield Dinner Theatre on Thursday morning. My friend put in a good word for me and seems to think that I'll get the job. Hopefully by this time next week I'll be the new Production and Props assistant. Cross your fingers for me.
