The year started in somber fashion as I went to the Auschwitz exhibit at the Reagan Library. Seeing the things from the concentration camp was angering, saddening, and bewildering all at once. It really made me really realize it wasn't that long ago and it gives me less patience for the people who similar rhetoric now. It is far to easy dress it up as political discourse when what is really being questioned is a people's right to exist.
I made my trip to check out the floats from The Rose Parade in Pasadena on the day after New Years. The ideas for the floats are usually creative. I beat the crowds for the most part and was able to see details on the floats. It is cool that the floats are made by volunteers who are regular people and not professionals.
I went to Orange County to see if I could track down the latest instance of biolumenscence in the waves. It is caused by a type of algae getting stirred up in the water. It happens at somewhat random times and random locations, usually in Orange County and sometimes Long Beaach. I caught the tail end of it as the tide was washing it away.
The vacation to begin my year concluded with going to see the Los Angeles Chargers play the Kansas City Chiefs. American football is far from my favorite sport, but it an activity nonetheless. The Chargers season is over and the Chiefs are going to the playoffs, so the game had a weird vibe.
It was a roller-coaster of a week for sure.
