At some point he became fractal. He certainly had no conscious knowledge of this, but as he looked back on the past five years, he became certain that he was no longer of singular mind. If pressed as to why this was, he might shrug and put forth his best guess: that the cataclysmic blunders he'd committed since moving back to this place that he'd waited years to leave set in motion a slow yet ever-so-steady erosion in his self-confidence, his self-image, and ultimately his state of mind. Of course he would affect an air of solemn introspection as he answered in order to mask his utter lack of faith in the veracity of his self-diagnosis. Ironic, really: a fractal man trying to explain his thoughts.
No, he's far too content in distracting himself from anything that resembles progress to actually find himself. Besides, his others are very content to vie for
their moments in the sun - oblivious and indifferent to the perhaps permanent damage they inflict upon him.
It's fascinating to watch and see just how far he'll fall before (if) he confronts life. Just how many things can he fuck up? Perhaps it's the only thing he's really good at after all.
