You know when you sometimes jokingly remark about 4pm on a friday that you'll be glad to get home and 'recover' from the week.
I have now actually come home and had to recover from the week for real and it's no fun. By the time I got round the security alert at Oxford Circus, after discovering that they'd moved Forbidden Planet without my permission, wedged myself onto a train and finally got home by about 8pm I was toast.
This week has brought for me the joys of:
a) not being able to get home because of a blackout in Slough
b) not being able to get to work on the Bakerloo because a train had broken down in Harrow
c) A bunch of refugee lawyers from our Reading office all wanting to plug into our network on Wednesday afternoon and nearly bringing our 10 MB minipipe to its knees
d) Not being able to get home on Friday night because of a security alert at Oxford Circus
e) The general malaise brought about by having to leave the house at 7am and not actually returning until gone 8 for five days
On the plus side I got to:
a) Have a beer with Hermes
b) Not spend any money on travel
Even though a) was a good laugh and b) was a positive godsend I have to say that I'm not really that arsed about doing it all over again in a month or not...
London stinks and its unpleasant and slathers you in grime. I feel sorry for all of youse that have to live and work there.
