"Party Time" by Tati was amazing. Ebert gave a very nice introduction to the film and the short that showed before called "the Heart of the World" that was made for the 25th anniversary of the Toronto Film Festival.
Crowning moment was after the viewing when Jonathan Rosenbaum, internationally acclaimed critic and funny old fucker to boot, took the stage with Ebert to talk about the film and his own experiences with Tati.
Tha film, is nearly indescribable in that it has no traditional story line, it is basically a movie about people's modern interfacing with architecture, each other and the swell and deflation of energy and mood. Gorgeously shot on 70mm over several years it was released in 1967. If you are in to movies at all you must see this film.
However, his style reminds me very much of Fellini, whom I'm sure inspired some of what came out of this film, especially the last scene that poses a parisian loop as a marry-go-round. we're all just going in circles. "Do you realize that we're floating in space." I wonder how much this film influenced Wayne Coin of the Flaming Lips??
