*sigh*

Wow. Busy week.

Sooo.... a few weeks ago I decided that my cat was lonely, and would do well with the company of a friend, so I started looking for a kitten to adopt. After *MUCH* turmoil on my hunt (little things kept going wrong), I finally got one from a local shelter. He was the sweetest little fluffball, and his name was Sampson.

A lot of the other cats at the shelter weren't available for adoption because they had upper respiratory infections, but Sampson was fine because he didn't show any symptoms. I got him home, and he was the sweetest, most affectionate cat I'd ever had. He would curl up on my chest every night and go to sleep nestled into the nape of my neck. biggrin

You SERIOUSLY cannot even handle the sheer adorableness of this kitten.

Then, after a few days, he started to get sick. It was clear it was the upper respiratory infection, so I made an appointment with the vet. He started to get worse and worse each day until the appointment, and he was barely eating. The vet gave me some meds for him, and I went home.

A few days later, he looked REALLY worse. I called the vet, and brought him in that night as an emergency case. The vet looked him over, then had a little heart to heart with me. He said Sampson was very, very sick, and he recommended that I return him to the shelter where I got him so that he could be put to sleep. He didn't think that Sampson would last the night, but that I could try to nurse him and stay up all night watching him.

He lived through the night, with me watching by his side, because I wasn't ready to give up on him. The next morning, I took him in to another vet for a second opinion. The new vet said that he MIGHT live if I paid to give him 24-hour care, so that they could put him on an IV drip and give him oxygen. He hadn't eaten in days, not even yummy tuna oil, and the vets had to inject him with fluids, since he wasn't drinking. He was having a really hard time breathing, since he was so congested.

I told the vet I couldn't afford the 24 hour care, so she said my best bet would be to steam up the shower so he could breath the steam and force-feed him baby food with lots of calories. I took him home and did what the vet said, but when I went to go feed him, he couldn't breath at all. He didn't have the strength to move or lift his head. He ended up passing away right there, curled up in my arms. He stopped breathing, and his eyes stared blank. I blowed into his mouth to try and clear his airway, but it was no use. His pupils were dialated and his tiny little body went cold.

My friend came over, and I tucked him into a shoebox, and we buried Sampson in his backyard.

oh my god darlin I'm so sorry! How brave of you to try to save him. I went through the same thing with my bunny, she pulled through but it's so scary to have such a little creature that you love so much get so sick. Hope everything else is well, say hi to Tom for me! (And I'm feeling much better, thanks for the well wishes) smile

xoxo.
