My musical influences: (just because I can)
Mike Doughty
Bela Bartok
Medeski Martin and Wood
Igor Stravinsky
Bud Powell
The Clash
So, keeping this in mind, I am going to get a job. I am going to save money and buy a Yamaha MOTIF 8 keyboard and a keyboard amp, some cables and a midi hub.
Then I am going to recruit a band: Bass, Drums, me on keys, a guitar player, and a trumpet and a saxophone player. We are going to play Clash influenced avant-garde jazz music, with socially aware beatnik lyrics. I was thinking either Mutant Freaks of Dayton, or Superfunds Site as the name of the band, but I'd be willing to bend on that.
Do you hear me? I mean it. I've wanted to start a band for years, and I've been too shit broke to buy equipment, and I haven't known the right people to get started with.
I'm determined. I was thinking about buying an upright bass, but changed my mind for two reasons: First, I can already play piano, and I can't play upright bass. Electric bass I'm not too bad on, but I'm no Jaco Pastorius either. Second, it costs more than the keyboard. Third, the keyboard will be useful as a piece of studio equipment as well as for gigs.
So there I am. Anyone with similar influences, please say "hi." More updates on this as things progress. Which they aren't right now, but they will. Later.
Tim.
