A carved pumpkin, painted silver and sporting wires, drew the attention of police at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee this morning before a student admitted he was controlling the jack-o-lantern's lights by computer.
"We don't know if it was a class project, science experiment or a prank," said Tom Luljak, vice chancellor for University Relations and Communications. "We just don't know."
That's a question university police hope to answer today after questioning the student, according to Luljak.
Police were called to the 2500 block of E. Hartford Ave. about 10:42 a.m. when the pumpkin was first discovered.
During the investigation, the student showed up and admitted to placing the pumpkin there, Luljak said. He was able to control the pumpkin with his computer, turning lights on an off by remote control.
"There were no explosives, no threat caused or presented by the pumpkin but obviously it did raise a concern," Luljak said. "Our police are questioning this young man to find out why he created this and what his motives were."
Yeah.
