My family (mom, dad, and 5 siblings) made it safely through Hurricane Ike. They are a bit traumatized, their house is badly damaged... a window blew in my parents bedroom, the roof blew off so they had a waterfall coming in on the second story, and pouring through to the first. Their entire covered back porch is now in the front yard, the water was leaking down around the fireplace too. There's more, but this is what they thought to tell me about at the moment. My brothers are currently using their fishing boat to check on the neighbors. They also cleared the storm drain of debris to help the flood waters recede. I was up basically all night watching the storm on doppler and texting with them about how Ike was moving. They live on the SE side of Houston, so the eye of the storm never passed over them. It was HOURS of constant high winds and rain... all night long. I'm just glad none of them were hurt. I'm thinking of starting a collection to help them out. God I'm glad they are all safe.
edit: I'm still really worried about my grandmother, aunt, uncle and cousin. They live in a mandatory evacuation zone (closer to the Gulf of Mexico), but didn't evacuate like idiots. No one has been able to reach them by phone.
