So I feel that my journal has been entirely neglected over the last few weeks. For some reason the internet has lost all its appeal for me recently and though I can still aimlessly browse all day on it, physically writing journal entries and holding conversations with people, even replying to comments seems like a chore. Im sorry to anyone who has commented to me, I will get back to you all! I havent been on msn or aim in weeks. But I dont even care. Its weird.
But anyway I will fill you in on what I have been up to recently. The last proper entry was when I was describing my job dilemma. Well that was solved for me really. I decided I didnt want the job, and I never called them like they told me to, if I hadnt heard from them. Chances are, they werent going to offer it to me anyway, but the fact that I didnt chase them up no doubt scuppered any chances I had anyway. I had another interview the week after anyway, at a company I much preferred, but I didnt get that either. No worries though, just securing 2 interviews in the space of a week was enough to boost my confidence. Getting the interviews are half the battle. What is now worrying me is the fact that the second job was based at Edgeware Road. Any of the people at that office could have been on the bombed tube train. It could have been me in another dimension. I am putting off any job searches in the very near future for two reasons. 1. Im a little bit paranoid, especially since the innocent guy was shot 5 times in the head at Stockwell, the nearest tube station to where I work NOW, thank god I dont get the tube, and 2. I am going to bide my time and see if people move away from the city, which may mean more jobs become available. I just need to continue battling this horrible boredom and trudge on with my crappy job a while longer. Bah.
So anyway, as most of you know, McK and I went to San Diego, and we came back last Wednesday. I am supremely knackered still, and I suspect I will be forever more. It was really awesome though. Here is a tale of what I did in San Dimas:
We stayed with another comic artist Chynna Clugston and her fianc. They are moving now, and so we attempted to get rid of some of her stuff with a very American Yard sale complete with beers and barbeque.
Here is a picture of me and my new boyfriend, he is a self-defence dummy, used to teach American kids how to fight bullies. Awesome.
Me and McSucky.
So then the next day we went to Rosarito in Mexico. It was ok, lots of people hassling you to buy their wares. If teres anything I hate its being hassled. I actually really wanted to buy some cheap silver jewellery, but I couldnt even face showing the smallest bit of interest. Oh well. On the border on the way back, twat here had forgotten my green card and the women border patrol person was a BITCH. She made us go and queue up at secondary immigration, where the nice guy took one look at me and my passport and didnt make me buy a new one, he just said Dont do it again. So it seems some CBP people are nice and not failed cops with a complex.
The very next day I went to get tattooed. Ouch. The wobbly lines on one side of me attest to the pain. I got used to it though, and when I get the outlines filled in it will be corrected. Sadly I have no pictures to show you, for reasons which I will come to later.
The rest of the week passed uneventfully, I went shopping in Hillcrest and bought some amazing shoes. Then on Thursday NerdProm 2005 arrived in all its glory.
I managed to wangle an Oni Press Staff pass for the weekend and spent the day wandering about. I went to see Bruce Campbells Spotlight on Bruce panel, which was hilarious. I was mere metres from the god that is Bruce. I even put my hand up to ask him a question about his new film and I almost died on the spot when he looked at me. I think my voice even shook. What a dork.
That night we went out to Shooterz, who had an 80s night on. Seems thw barman liked us, which in America translates to EXTREMELY generous measures of spirits. Blaaargh. I mean, thanks for being nice, but I like a bit of mixer in my whiskey! We were rather drunk
Friday, having barely recovered from the wonder that was Bruce the day before, I actually met the man himself. I went to a book signing, which was rather well attended, sadly meaning I couldnt even get a dedication in my copy of if Chins could Kill or Make Love: The Bruce Campbell Way, but I did get them signed and had a 10 second conversation with him about the London Bombings and I shook his hand. I havent washed it since. (ew gross, I have really!)
We also saw Jack Black and his 7 foot minder. I got a cool free Tshirt from Dani Benson, sister of Amber of Buffy fame. I also met a gajillion people over the weekend, so hi to everyone, I wont mention names because I am lazy, and that is that
We spent Friday night in Urgent Care (casualty) with Jamie because he had eye-itis, which made him look like hed been punched and couldnt wear contacts the rest of the trip. Which made him a blindy and he wore my glasses which do nothing, and probably ignored a load of people because he couldnt see them haha
Saturday was more of the same at the con. I had my first ever proper sushi for dinner
Sunday was more chilled, we got a shit ton of free books, which added an extra 100 pounds to our luggage. I failed to get a picture with Elvis Stormtrooper, wah wah L Then on Monday Jamie and I hopped onto the Amtrak to go up to LA where we managed to cap off a weekend of bad luck with leaving the camera on the train, hence no tattoo photos. We popped off to Le Meridien Beverly Hills for our last night of 5 star luxury at $45 for the night, courtesy of our friend Fran who works for the chain. Jamie and I went off with Nick and Fran to a nice Mexican place, the oldest in LA, for our last meal before relaxing ready for our 5am start. Flew out at 8.30am, arrived back, and that was that. This is way too long! Sorry. I have now got a ton of graphic novels to read (not before I read the new Harry Potter, which I thought was brilliant, and everyone who has claimed their lives will never be the same and they want to die and/or kill J.K. should get a grip ), and the book of Bruce. I hope everyone in SG world is well.
*shock update!* I just realised I forgot to draw on my eyebrows this morning! I thought I looked weird!
