So I had a job interview yesterday, and now I am in a quandry. I mean, I have no idea whether I'll even get a 2nd interview let alone the job so it's slightly irrelevant, but I thought I'd put it out there anyway...
I currently have an extremely easy life as a copywriter, in south london, on ultra-flexi-flexi-time. This means I get up at 7.10 or 7.20am, catch a train at 8.49 and arrive at work around 9.30. The work is easy, hence my daily SGing. I leave sometime between 4 and 6, usually 5.30/6 but if I need to I can make my excuses and leave at 4. My core hours are 39.5 per week, but I sometimes don't even do that. No one cares. I know I have it really easy and that most other jobs are a lot more hardcore. I am not afraid of hard work.
Now this new job is in Marylebone, and pays 2000 pa more than my current job. It looks like an interesting and fulfilling job at an up and coming young company, with young staff. The trouble is that to get into workI have to spend 40 more a month and catch the tube (which recently has been unbearable). Now I was prepared for this, we can't all be lucky enough to be able to walk from the mainline station. More of an issue are the hours. 9-6 everyday, except Tuesday. (I thought, oooh, 9-12? 10-6? ) No. 8.30-6. That's a full 45.5 hours a week. 6 more than I do now. 338 more a year. I will have to get up an hour earlier (surely that can't mean 5.30 am on a tuesday?! ), and I will most likely get home an hour and a half later. The thought fills me with dread! Like I said I'm not afraid of some hard work, but most offices do 9-5.30 or something. I'm not sure that the 2k payrise will even make much of a differnce with the extra hours. So, yes, if I do get offered it, I will be in a dilemma. I guess if there's a good chance of more money fairly quickly it would be bearable? Ooooh I dunno.
Life has been good recently, with friends and love and weddings and a gig and lovely weather. Though lovely weather + tubes + gigs is not so fun. Last night it was like standing fully clothes in a sauna, and I'm not even joking. Disgusting. But working where I work has advantages, because my two outfits yesterday and today cos me a total of about 1, together. Hooray for cheap summer clothes.
It's San Diego in 2 weeks too. I cannot WAIT!!
Hope all is well with me homies. Offer me up some advice guys!
