I just got back from seeing Man of Steel. I have mixed feelings about it..... If you have not seen it yet then do not read past this sentence.
SPOILERS! (Click to view)
At the beginning I really started to enjoy the story line. It was a bit different but I like the story line of Krypton and how its destruction came to pass and how Kal El was saved. I like that this movie dealt with Zod a bit more and had more background to his character.
Things I absolutely hated that they changed. Superman Killing Zod, that is not what Superman is about and he does not kill. I believe in one comic and one time he had no other choice but to kill. Looking back the writers kinda screwed the pooch and had no other choice but to make superman kill Zod because they felt no need to introduce Kryptonite and put Zod in a kryptonite prison and then they could bring Zod back as a enemy in a Justice league or another movie. I had a hard time seeing that seen and had to keep reminding myself that it was a different adaptation of the original story.
I also did not agree with how it showed how Lois Lane tracked him down to his mom and figured out his identity and then at the end of the movie how he went to work at the Daily planet. Lois knows who clark really is..... how is that going to make other movies better? the whole mystery of his identity and Lois obsession with superman but then falls in love with Clark is ruined. Also it pissed me off that as Superman he did not have slicked back hair and as Clark he had the same hair.........So in this movie the only thing that "Disguised Clark Kent was a pair of glasses".
The biggest thing I could not stand was how they wrote Lois Lane. They took away the spit fire Lois we all love and replaced her with some Doe eyed push over. Might have been the way Amy Adams played the character but in my mind Lois played no critical part of the movie and I think it would have been just as good if it was done by just a regular girl. Lois is Superman's better human half........ and yet they showed none of that from her. Also because of how Lois knows who clark really is in this movie, we will not get the pleasure of seeing Lois batter him around as the new guy and think she is superior to Clark.
Like I said, mixed feelings. there was a lot of stuff I did like and some I loved and some stuff I felt iffy about and other stuff I just hated. We will see if they make another one and how they will continue the story line they have fallen into.
