Last night I went to see Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters, I was hearing mixed reviews but some of my wife's friends back in the states said it was good. We wanted to go see it and we did. Here is what I thought of the movie......
When it came to action scenes I score it at about a solid B, While the action was good it was a little awkward seeing witches use magic and Hansel and Gretel using shotguns and crossbows, yet somehow all of them even the witches knew martial arts.
When it comes to the story line I give it a B-, while they tried something new with the fairy tail which I like it wasn't the best thought out. Much more could have been done but they did what they had a budget for I guess. It's a decent story line but near the end things kinda get a little weird.
Writing of the story and character lines gets a C-. I give it that because there were quite a few corny superhero quips that I thought were just uncalled for and made me annoyed. When things like that happen its hard for me to get into the movie. Plus for that era I highly doubt they used the word fuck (I could be wrong) but they used it a lot and that just puts a damper on things for me.
Acting I gave it a B- C+, was it necessarily the actors faults? no I am sure it had a lot to do with how their character was written but I have seen better acting from Jeremy Renner and Gemma Atterton.
For what the movie was I give it an all around solid B, it is enjoyable in most parts and only a few parts I found my eyes rolling. If you like to see new dark twists on fairy tales then this is a must see. If your going for a great story line plot then probably isn't the movie for you. I do recommend this movie to see as an outting just to get away from the house and the stresses of life and see witches get their heads blown off.
