I finally had my first surreal "small world" moment since arriving in London.
Last night I went to see The Dears play at a club night at the Mean Fiddler in Soho...great show, despite it being a little half-hour set (their 'real' gig is tonight at ICA and has been sold out for awhile). My British friends were all fireworked out and tired, so I trekked out to the club alone, not really minding since I knew The Dears would make me feel right at home (saw them two or three times in Edmonton) and I suspected I might meet a Canadian or two.
Well. Little did I suspect that, after waiting in the lineup for thirty seconds, I would run into Jen, I girl I went to *high school* with. Hadn't seen her in like 6 or 7 years, and she's been in London three years already. Hilarity ensued...it turned out she was there with (of course) a whole flotilla of expat Edmontonians/Canadians. Ended up hanging out with the whole gang as well as George (Dears' drummer) and Renauld (sound guy) for most of the night. Drank too much. Watched the beautiful people. Talked shop. Caught the night bus home at (ugh) 4:30am.
Massive morning headache.
I'm starting to love it here.
