So I'm browsing the internet today and I find out J Dilla had passed away on Friday due to a sickness he acquired on a trip overseas.
Dilla was without a doubt my favorite hip-hop producer of all-time. His mellow beats can be heard in songs by A Tribe Called Quest, Common, The Roots, The Ummah, all the good neo-soulish throw back hip-hop acts.
He was a founding member of Slum Village. Their second album is one of my favorite CD's of all time. So mellow and relaxing.
My brief dabbling into beat making was largely inspired by Dilla himself. I wanted to duplicate his sound because I liked it so much.
The Hip-Hop community will forever miss J Dilla.
As will I.
