*At the venue I immediately started looking for the coat check. I didn't want to dance in my big leather jacket when I was all dolled up, but there was none.
*I found a hallway by the restrooms that actually had a working radiator in it -- the only heat source I'd seen in the chilly place. It was dark and cozy and no one was around so I knelt over the radiator and prayed for warmth. Stashed my coat above a drop ceiling tile.
*Tapping the Vein was second. They started with "river," followed by "everything." At this point the guitarist took off his sweatshirt and heather took off hers, commenting about how cold it was. Some kids cried "show us your tits!" Next was "beautiful," "the ledge," "butterfly," and "numb," which I danced to, back pretty much to a wall to avoid feelie gremlins. But it was a dance without feeling, the dance I'd practiced wednesday night. That was it. Six songs.
*I made it in a whole hour less than yahoo! had predicted, and it seemed as if my spedometer was reading ten miles slower, because I was passing everything on the road at 75. At eleven o'clock on a saturday night. The only sound was the engine and wind.
