I went to see Man of the Year with my friends Kris, Drew, and Jill tonight. It was good - funny, but with a more complex story than I really expected. It wasn't difficult to follow or anything, I just expected more straightforward comedy. You have to hope that some politician might be stimulated by the film's point, or at least some voters. I guess we'll find out in 2008. By the way, Lewis Black rocks! He was acting, rather than doing his act, which was good for the movie, but I kept waiting for him to go off 'Back in Black' style.
Here's what sucked - the sound cut out less than five minutes from the end of the movie! There was apparently an electrical problem that affected several of the theaters, and the sound came back on before the movie ended, yet they gave us (that waited around) free passes to come back. It's not worth watching the movie all over again right away, but it was still in the part where all the loose ends are being tied up. I need closure, damn it!
I'm over it now. I'll see it on DVD in a year or so, when the jokes will be refreshed by my forgetfulness. It wasn't as bad as the time Kurt, Kitty, Margaret and I saw Alexander. We were about three hours into three-and-a-half of some pretty weak moviemaking, when the fire alarm system malfunctioned. The theater apologized and gave us passes, but they had to clear everybody out for the night. We all agreed that the movie was crap and we were never going to go through that again, but we felt like we had earned an ending!
Going to Dun Or Anniversary tomorrow, so I should get some sleep if I want to be there for set-up.
