I promised I would share more about my conditions so I’ll start with Fibrous Dysplasia. I’ll share a link at the bottom for anyone who cares to learn more. I did already share this on my Gofundme so apologies if you have already read this there. The fundraiser is still open so please donate if you can and share: FD is a rare congenital disease which effects bone growth. It can effect one bone or multiple. I’m lucky to only have it in my left fibula. It weakens the bone and can cause them to become misshapen and become deformed and ultimately cause pain.
My pain is caused by an abnormal ankle joint. My fibula bone grew too long for my leg and bowed out and pushed my ankle all outta shape. There is no proper joint so there is a lot of rubbing and inflammation when I’m on my feet for long periods of time. I also have almost no movement in the ankle joint and horribly flat feet.
The FD was picked up by doctors as a baby and I began going to Great Ormand Street Hospital, a world famous children’s hospital. The pain wasn’t terrible as a child, but I could never take part in sports and was allowed to wear trainers to school all the time. GOSH discharged me as an adult and that’s when it started to get really bad.In my early 20s I had surgery on the ankle but it made the pain worse, over the years I had multiple procedures to help with the pain but none of them worked for long.
The pain now in the ankle has grown so bad that I need to use a walking aid. I take morphine and pre gabalin at high doses everyday and I’m still in pain. For years I would joke about being better off without the leg, though I never thought it would actually happen!
