There comes a day every year that makes you say "Shit, it feels like summer" for the first time, Today is that day in Des Moines. I went for a run around the city and everywhere people were outside. A strong warm wind was sweeping across the city that, if it had just a hint of salt in it, would feel as if it was on the banks of an ocean.
The sun beat down on everyone and I had sweat for the first time at the beginning of a run. While running past a family cooking out, I got the smell. Freshly lit charcoal searing steaks on a stone grill decades overdue for a fix. It is primal sensations such as this that make me love summer in the midwest. People who spend months stuck in their houses during the winter, know how precious days like this are and I, like them, am going to experience more of it.
