my sister is such an idiot. this is how my evening went:
approximately 8:30 pm i call home to see how my mom is doing:
sister: hello
me: hey, how's it going?
sister: good
talk talk talk
me: is mom there?
sister: no.
me: oh, where is she?
sister: in the hospital.
me: ....what?
she really needs to learn that when my mom goes to the hospital, she really ought to give me a fucking phone call.
it's now 11:15 and i just got the final phone call from my mom. it looks like she has an ovarian cyst, which usually isn't a big deal, except my mom is 55 and very post-menopausal. cysts in post-menopausal women aren't nearly as common and could be the sign of something bad. she has a gyno appointment on friday and i imagine we'll know more then.
"An ovarian cyst in a post-menopausal woman is frequently malignant. In both of these age groups, diagnostic surgery to make an absolute identification is needed. This can be done by either diagnostic laparoscopy which is inserting a tube with a camera attached to it through the belly button, or diagnostic laparotomy which is making an incision through the abdomen, and looking at the ovary."
sigh.
man, this has been one hell of a stressful day.
i really just don't feel well right now. somebody needs to come and let me curl up into their lap for awhile. i don't know what to do with myself when things like this happen.
