Ever since I was a child... I have always been good with inanimate objects.
Perhaps I should explain.
I love bringing them to life.
My brother and I used to stop motion everything we could get our hands on. We even cleaned our basement one frame at a time one time.. it was cool. I mean we were kids so it sucked.. but it was a cool idea.
Anyways.. I always had stuffed animals and was always moving them around, giving them voices and personalities, emotions... it was a dream for a while to be a muppeteer because I thought I was pretty good at it and I still do.
I have put it off long enough and I have finaly started to put together my first muppet.
Now.. for asubject i have chosen a cartoon character of mine named "Mr. Mish"
Hes grumpy, hes perverted, but ultimately for the first muppet I make, hes a simple enough character to get some of the basics down.
Now the first step was carving away the head from a cylinder of upholstery foam. I understand that this type of foam is not what they use for making muppets, its not dense enough so it doesnt cut well, and it doesnt last as long because its not made to be in direct contact with skin as long as it would be as a puppet, so some extra care will have to be take when I get to the stage of lining the carved foam.
This would be the box of foam left over:
Now... I also madea basic hand. I will be covering it with "muppet" fleece, so bear with the thrown together look for now. i will be adding some more chicken wire to firm it up,, as this particular hand has to be holding a cane.
Now. The head has been carved and it looks like this without the fleece on top. It will have a lined mouth with thin teeth so you dont see the hole in the back of the mouth.
thats all I got for now. Next time I will post a pic of what the character looks like on the page so you can see where Im going with it.
