Colorado Part Deux; Vail
I've decided that I really like the mountains. Maybe I could move to a resort town for a couple months and work as a barista or something to pass the time during the days and muse about my music at night. I wonder how angry Sufjan Stevens would be if I made a Colorado themed album first?
On Sunday, my brother took us up higher into the mountains past a really trashy little town to an abandoned mining town that was shut down in the 50's because of contaminated water and deaths resulting from it. I guess it was so toxic and dangerous and a big deal that if you trespass there now and get caught, the FBI pretty much fucks you in the ass and hauls you off never to be spoken to again. I want to research the town and maybe find a way to go there for a day to photograph it. I took some pictures from a snowbank on a cliff above it. In one of them, my friend Nick is now immortalized nearly falling to his death from the cliff. The snow started to collapse under him as i snapped the photo.
Adam made a gourmet meal for us. Chicken cordon bleu and sauteed mushrooms with mashed potatoes for me and vegan friendly stir fry for Nick. Did I mention my brother works at a 5 star French restraunt in Vail as a chef's apprentice?
Both nights were full of alcoholism and pool at a bar my brother frequents for said purposes. Apparently in Vail the only things to do are get drunk and play pool. Everything closes at 11. After we were kicked out at 10 for not being 21 yet, we went back to my brother's apartment and played Presidents and Assholes. At any rate, I got to brush up on my drinking game skills and be stuck in a bathtub for 15 minutes talking to a friend from KY telling him very drunkenly how desperate I was to get the fuck out of that tub. I have a great polaroid of it.
Monday we made the long trek home, stopping for coffee with aforementioned and photographed Denver man candy (ha ha) followed by agonizing over the entire 8 hour drive home about wanting to go back to Colorado... all the while Nick disapproved from the passenger seat. Just because I was 7 when he graduated from high school doesn't make it wrong...
All in all it was a really good trip full of tons of interesting stories I can really do justice to in a blog. I know what happened, the order of events, and of course every cup of coffee I drank or every shitty bite of fast food I took on this trip.
Also top off my trip going well, my friend/old roommate Peyton had a little baby boy today at 4:52 pm. He's gorgeous, just like mommy. Congrats on little Asher!
