Boring Filipe Stuff
I woke up at 7:00 today and thought "Oh man, I woke up, I can totally go to school today." .. then I fell back asleep.
Thing is, I work all day, then I get home and work some more. And I mean until the whee hours of the night. Ehn, but I complain too much.
The Upcoming War
There's been a lot of censorship going on and a lot of people (I'm talking about musical artists here) speaking out against the war overseas, but hushing up on America. CBS told artists at the grammy's that if they said anything about the war, their bits would be cut.
I can't honestly say I'm informed enough to say anything too educated about it. I do my own thing and pick up pretty much all my information from other people and what little news and tv I happen to take in. I understand the gov'ts need to keep the morale of soldiers up in case of a very likely war - I mean, how would GI Joe Schmoe feel if he found out his favorite artist was putting down what he dedicated 2 or more years of his life to doing?
I don't dislike soldiers in the field, but I don't like this war either (though I'm not all, "No war, ever, for any reason" - not yet at least). CBS has a right to do what they did, and it was probably in their best interests to do what they did, same with the artists for holding back. I don't approve, but I understand.
Business
Business is a game that's fun to play - but the problem is (and Libertarians wouldn't have you believe this) that everyone involved is trying to win, and the means rarely involve doing what's best for society. Artists' choices to not speak out against the war protected their business, but their high-profile influence over the nation's youth would have swayed opinion reasonably. Would it be worth it to the artists to hurt their livelihood to stand up for their ideals? Isn't that what song is all about? (It really isn't, but I appreciate it when it is)
If enough artists at the grammys decided to speak out against the war, CBS may have been left with a show that was none-too-fulfilling (after cutting out all those artists' parts). Maybe they would have left them in?
So, yeah, that's all. I don't really know enough to say anything for sure, I don't even know what point I'm trying to make. I guess I'm just trying to get people to think about stuff that they maybe didn't consider before - even if that won't lead to any conclusions either.
