What has happened in the last month that I have been unable to update this thing? Well, the big news is that I went to nyc to be the technical director for an off-broadway show. I got a call last wednesday asking me to fly in on friday to tech a show that had its first preview on tuesday. The whole thing was very last minute but the show went up without a hitch. Then I came back and worked my ass off at my own theater.
The unfortunate news is that in the last 3 days, i've already worked for 40 hours. I've been spending all of my time at my theater installing a new dimmer rack and relocating equipment to the new tech booth.
The good news (aside from all the new stuff) is that because of all this work, I got a $3000 raise on my salary. I'm so very excited about all my new stuff in the theater and about the raise, but i'm just too damn exhausted to show it.
I go back to nyc in a couple weeks to continue working on One Man Star Wars Trilogy off-broadway. I honestly really don't like nyc. Its gross. I really cannot get excited about a city where the policy is to leave your garbage on the sidewalk. This is new york fuckin' city. People from around the world come to this city for their first taste of the American experience. These people are greeted with the sight and smell of our waste perpetually littering the already crowded walkways.
The city does have its endearing qualities. But frankly, there's not enough to get excited about for me to be there for more than a short period of time.
My friend Keith of the band World Leader Pretend is coming to Chicago for a whole week!!! This will be the first time in 2 years that i've seen him for more than a couple hours. I'm totally excited about that too!
Oh, and the leak in my kitchen ceiling was taken care of today. Some workers ripped a giant hole in the ceiling to find the water pipe that everyone assumed was leaking. But when they removed the ceiling there was no pipe to be found. Turns out it was just my landlord's water cooler that was leaking and not a pipe. So my landlord was really embarrassed about the whole thing which is good for my roommate because he hasn't paid rent yet.
Well that's all for now. Enjoy your days.
