Today was the first day since I've lived in Chicago that I went to the beach in the summer. I've been in every other season -- the one's where it's too cold to swim -- but today I ventured out into the calm, cool, questionable waters of Lake Michigan and layed out on the beach in an attempt to cure my infection of utter whiteness. I wasn't always this white...not when I lived down south in the searing heat of the Chocolate City. Not when I frequented the beaches of the Gulf Coast on a near-daily basis. Not when I would spend hours fishing and crabbing under the radiant glow of the sun as it penetrated the ozone-less sky for 10 months of the year. No, sir...not in those days.
However, I moved to the great white north. I work in the theatre. I listen to far less hip-hop than I used to. And I am much whiter for it.
Fun day, though. I really enjoyed it. I'm looking forward to going back.
This week I'm going to see a few plays and host a couple parties for my friend Anthony's wedding.
I've been teaching myself to play the banjo. But....this is my new obsession.
love your brothers and sisters
