LA is San Francisco's slutty sister. It's really a nasty place. I really want to love it but I just can't. We spent what felt like most of the weekend in traffic wishing that we had gone somewhere else. Other than that it was pretty good though.
Jonny Lang was fucking awesome! He is so intense and feels every syllable of every word of his songs. He is kick ass on guitar and even though this was promoted as an acoustic tour he treated us to his skill on electric guitar for one song.
His opening act Susie Suh was more folk than Lang but she was still a great vocalist. She's an LA native and is relatively new. You might recognize her song "Shell" from the ending credits of the movie "Must Love Dogs." I loved her performance and wanted to buy her CD but the girlfriend person didn't like her so I'll just d/l it from itunes and put it on the ipod.
Saturday afternoon we went to Venice Beach and walked along the oceanside browsing the stores and vender merchandise. There are so many artists selling their stuff on the strip. There is this one guy who makes paintings with bottles of spray paint. We watched him make one from start to finish. The guy is amazing and his work is truly beautiful. We bought one of his paintings for the kid. He really likes it and has been thinking about what kind of frame he wants for it all week. We found a lingerie/sex toy shop and went in looking at the cute t-shirts and panties. My girl was looking at a shirt and the shirt on the rack above her fell off. Some hooker came over in her little mini-skirt with a ladder and climbed on up with her cooch right in my girls face. It was pretty fun watching her try to not notice. I still haven't said anything to her about it. It was cute though.
We had yummy vegan food at
Vegan Glory. The service was excellent and the food was so yummy. My tummy was very happy. My girl had the yellow curry and I had the sweet and sour. Then it was so good that I got the coconut shrimp to go. That was really good when we got back to the room after the concert. The waitresses were so cute with their green and purple hair and they magically appeared with refills before I had even swallowed the last gulp of delicious green tea. I would eat there every day if I lived in LA. We also ate at Paru's a South Indian veg restaurant. It was pretty good too. The patio has a ceiling of vines and umbrellas and is very peaceful. I wasn't too terribly impressed with the food but it was a good experience overall.
So that was pretty much my weekend. Well, besides the flea market we went to on Sunday morning which sucked all the energy out of me and the dyke bar we went to for about an hour on Sunday evening. It was a pretty cool place. Just some people having drinks and playing pool, which is what I like in a bar. I'm not a big club person. But anyway, LA has it's benefits but the hours I spent with my teeth clenched and my ass on the edge of my seat weren't worth it. I much prefer the feel of San Francisco.
