Well, Friday night was date night and there was a special GALA (gay and lesbian alliance) gathering for the SLO premiere of Brokeback Mountain. We have been hearing about this movie for ages now but never thought it would play anywhere near here. (side note: CalPoly, the closest college, is the only place in California where President Regan didn't get booed off the stage during his speech) There was first come first served seating and no advance tickets were sold. Luckily we got there early enough to get a seat because more than half of the people in line were turned away.
There was some interesting graffiti in the alley to amuse us while we wasted an hour in line.
a closer look...
Then just as they started letting people in a group of four people just walked into the line behind us. My girlfriend confronted them and said, "The end of the line is that way" and she pointed to the end of the line which was a block away. The obvious leader and the only male in the group offered this in reply, "What are you a scientist?" I was amazed at his quick wit and I helped them out by again pointing out that they were in the middle of the line, not the end of the line. The guy was really on that night because he replied, "You must be a genius too."
Now, if you knew my girlfriend you'd know that it's a miracle that this incident didn't result in the police being called but I somehow managed to calm her down by changing the subject and assuring the group of twenty-somethings that we'd be letting the person at the box office know that they cut in line.
So, we get to the front and let the lady know that the four people behind us thought they were so special that they should have the seats that rightfully belonged to four people who actually waited in line and she called the manager.
Now, we assumed that that the manager was dealing with it so we went to find our seats in the rapidly filling 125 seat theatre. Since it was a special GALA event wine and beer were being served and my girlfriend saved my seat as I went to get me a glass of wine and her a beer. As I returned to my seat I noticed the four twenty-something's headed down toward the front row.
The injustice of it nearly ruined my date night. Friends of ours who had waited an hour had been turned away and those assholes, who had probably never heard of GALA were drinking wine and watching a movie they cheated their way into.
I know the girls felt guilty though because after the show Theresa and I were waiting in line for the restroom and the girls started to walk into the line, saw us standing there, did a stupid, "Oh, I don't really have to go" turn about, twirled their hair as they pretended not to see us, then walked away. (that was a whole lot of commas)
So anyway, the movie was awesome as expected. Ang Lee is a fucking genius. The only complaint that I have is with the sex scenes. While they were passionate and sexy, they were very rough and almost angry. Not one sex scene between the two main characters was intimate and loving. I wish they had included some kind of soft kissing or touching to show the intimacy that can be shared between men.

I cant wait to see the movie, I heard the one of them almost broke the others nose by accident in one of the kissing scenes so I had assumed it would be more of the rougher kinda sex stuff...
I hate is when people do stuff like that, cutting in line and stuff that would have bugged me all nite too.. My husband said he would have announced to the rest of the line that "these **not very nice words** just cut in front of all of yall in line, I tried to tell them to go to the end of the line but they think they are better then all of yall" and let the crowd handle it...
