Britt's water broke at about 1am on the 19th. We got to the hospital at about 2am and settled in for a long day. Britt's contraction weren't progressing so they gave her medicine to increase the strength. She really hated that. She went to about 5 centimeters without pain medicine but after that she decided to get something to take the edge off. She did really good with her breathing and meditation. The aromatherapy and music really helped too. If anything it gave her something to focus on besides the pain.
Finally at about 8 pm the doctor came in and said it was time to push. We were all very happy because we were afraid that she wouldn't get to 10 centimeters. The baby's heart rate was getting erratic and we were anxiously watching the monitor. Britt did such a good job of pushing! I am so amazed at how strong she is. The doctor even commented on how good she pushed.
After about an hour of pushing the doctor became concerned about the baby's heart rate. Every time Britt had a contraction the baby's heart rate would dip way down and it took her longer to recover each time. Brittany had a fever and possibly an infection and it was obvious that the baby was not handling labor very well. The doctor said that Britt could continue to push and the baby would get there eventually but he thought a c-section would be the best thing. Brittany didn't want a c-section but didn't hesitate for a second when the doctor said it would be best for the baby. I'm so proud of her, you have no idea.
So Theresa and Britt went down to the OR while I waited with family downstairs. They told us to listen for a little lullaby and when we heard it we'd know she was born and we could walk up to the nursery to see her. I have no idea how long it was but when I heard the music play over the loud speaker I rushed upstairs.
We waited for T to come back with the baby and I was so relieved to finally see her. That was possibly the scariest thing I've ever had to deal with. I was so relieved to see that baby coming down the hall and as soon as I found out that Britt was doing OK I balled my head off. It was such an emotional ordeal, I wasn't expecting that part.
So here are the pictures as promised
Here's our perfect little Logan Julia just minutes after being born.
She has all ten fingers
and all ten toes.
Her grama fed her good! The doctor was worried that she'd be a small baby, he said around 5-6 lbs. I guess they thought that because Britt was so small. She sure showed them!
Winking at grama, she's already a ham for the camera.
When the nurses were giving her oxygen she would grab the little face mask and pull it off. They finally had to hold her little hands down.
She's a tough one already!
I do believe in love at first sight!
How could anyone not love this face!?
