A tale of two Concerts
It was the best of times it was the worst of times. In the last two days I have attended two concerts. One really really good and one VERY VERY BAD.
THE FIRST CONCERT
On Thursday I had the utmost pleasure of going to The Dirtbombs show at the Commodore with Lemonkid and Topbanana66. The Concert and location were perfect. I highly recomend picking up the Dirtbomb's latest album and whatever music the second opener, The Sight, have. The first opener might have been good but I will never know as we didn't get there in time. I had agreed to pick Lemonkid up from the ferry. Of course though he never made the ferry he was supposed to be on. The bus for the five o clock ferry got him there at five o five. With a great deal of fortune he managed to reach me on the phone.... because I was lazy and hadn't left when I should have to pick him up. So he is going to arrive in Vancouver after door opening. There was no way to get ahold of Topbanana66 so he will not know what happened to us when we don't show up. Finally Lemonkid arrives in vancouver and we hop in my beautiful plymouth Reliant and start speeding along the highway. Less than five minutes onto the road and my car stalls. I seriously thought it had finally died. Lemonkid started to hyperventilate. After too many key turns the car starts. A fucking MIRACLE. If it hadn't I think I would be dead and Lemonkid would be on trial for my murder.
Well we get there. We only missed the first starter and we even have time to get booze. Well O my brothers I your humble narrator does have to congratulate himself on one issue. I did not turn this event into yet another tale of overdrinking. We met up with Topbanana66 who was past angry past worried and was now just happy to see us.
The Sight were the second openers and they were really really good. The lead singer had a great yell sing thing and a good sing sing thing. Shrug I am getting tired don't expect too much intelligence the rest of the way through this entry. They had an organ player and the singer was just really good with the guitar. I figure next time I hear about The Sight they will be the headliners.
Well another short intermission with which to buy just a little more beer. Then the Dirtbombs. Words fail me. Words just gave me an F. They had two Drummers, two bassists and one guitarist/lead singer. It just kicked. I got right to the front but I let the actual front be formed of the hot indy chicks. There were two of them with the most beautiful tattoos over there gorgeous shoulders. Yeah so I stuck fairly close to them the whole event. They got to watch the show from the front and I got to be constantly wailed on by the large football players that wanted to well get up to them. This was great it gave me more than enough excuse to unleash my violent urges and it gave me a rationalization for standing near the beautiful ones. It seems that a very deep old part of my personality is connected to violently protecting the beautiful girls from guys that are bigger and stronger than me. It goes back to grade two at least. The real pain from that evening does not come from the drunken molesting assholes behind me. The pain came from the most beautiful of the beautiful ones kicking backwards without looking and nailing me right in the nuts! Sigh. Anyways. I still stuck around and fended off the big guys. Shrug. Afterwords I told the other one how much I liked her tattoos. I think it was of Kwan Yin.
For a while we hung around the edge of the dance floor and Topbanana got us talking to the members of the band Hurricane Kitty cause he knew the bassist. We stood half assed danced and made comments about how much we liked the music they had on afterwards. That was the good concert.
THE SECOND CONCERT
The other was Nickelback. I think I lack the personal strength to describe this experience. More when I can describe it with out flashbacks and trauma. Lets just put out for now that I was there for WORK not of my own free will. Thanks to this night I no longer fear HELL.
Tommorow? David Bowie.
