Well it looks like I'll have to skip school for three days yet again. That or be forced to find alternate transportation.
Campus Pro-Life has been given the go-ahead to launch another sexist and misguided propoganda assault on the students of the University of Calgary. See article http://gauntlet.ucalgary.ca/story/9884/ . Now I'm all for freedom of speech and them having that opinion. What I'm not a huge fan of is me and everyone else being forced to hear that opinion. I think it is crucial than when you have freedom of speech, you have freedom of not listening or looking as well. You may turn off the radio or TV, close a book whatever.
But what happens when you are forced to take public transit to school, and the campus pro-life sets up their display right at the base of the train station forcing every student to see their disgusting and offensive boards relating abortion to black slavery and murder? Is that not against my basic rights?
I feel so strongly for every girl who's been through an abortion experience and now has to walk through this violent and sexist display full of lies and propoganda. It's disgusting. It's crass. It's full out wrong.
I am highly disappointed in the University of Calgary for allowing this to happen again. It shows a complete lack of compassion and understanding to female students, to Jewish students, to black students, and to the entire student body.
I'm going to have to think of a good protest, that doesn't get me arrested. Or maybe does. I think destroying their posters would be worth getting arrested.
I am definately launching a complaint though. They have no right to force us to look at it

Let me know if there is anything I can do to help.
Have a great day!
I fully agree though, once someone has already had an abortion experience that cannot be changed. To have to walk by those posters would be highly traumatic. I was unable to read the article due to the pictures.
PS. destroying the posters would do nothing but get you arrested and grant them massive free publicity. Complaints have already been filed like crazy. By attracting attenting to the opposition of the posters you by default attract attention to the posters themselves. To make them go away the best option is to not comment on them.
