My hands smell like peanut butter.
Today my mom and dad were working pretty hard reseeding the backyard so that we'll have some kind of nice yard to host my brother's rehearsal dinner. Which will be a bbq. I'm thinking of making pulled pork sandwiches (LOTS of pork haha) with a variety of bread to put it on and of course pickles and onions, some blue cheese cole slaw, triple cream macaroni and cheese with bacon, southern style green beans, cajun corn on the grill, pasta salad, and some form of potatoes. And for dessert several varieties of cookies and brownies as well as cheesecake pops which if you haven't seen one before are just cheesecake rolled into a ball and decorated any way you like, on a stick, making it a "pop". Wanna come?
But anyway, since they worked so hard I decided to make them dinner. Fried chicken, peas, twice baked potatoes, buttermilk biscuits. And peanut butter cookie chocolate& peanut butter chip bars. Which are just peanut butter cookie dough shaped into a 9x9x2" pan pressed with the chips. No pictures, sorry. But that's why my hands smell like peanut butter and it's driving me NUTS.
And all the while that I'm concocting these delicious traditional southern meals that I know like the back of my hand, I'm thinking I need to completely throw all that knowledge out the window and try to learn how to cook some sort of health food. I've got to keep this weight off. I can't think of anything worse than going through all this and then gaining the weight back when that has been the only positive thing to happen besides my "sobriety".
Food. Such a major part of life, and such a struggle for me. Why is something meant to fuel my body also the thing that's killing it. I've got to figure this out once and for all. I have too many major medical issues in my family history to not start to be concerned.
Wish me luck.

One, it's fine to eat fried chicken or mashed potatoes once in a while. It's a problem to eat that kind of food for every meal, every day, for obvious reasons.
Two, it's probably not only the kind of food you're eating that does it. It's probably a combination of that, plus the quantity of food, plus the frequency at which you eat, plus a lack of exercise. A nutritionist and personal trainer buddy of mine once told me that the best way to eat is to eat five meals a day, filling up your food pyramid (or whatever the fuck they're calling it) accordingly, with each meal being about the size of both of your fists balled up and put side by side.
Cutting out all delicious things isn't going to work. It's going to make you miss food, and I'd be willing to bet that you'll stick to it for a week or two and then bail, because it's so miserable. Doing things cold turkey works for some people, but it fails a lot more often. Do it gradually and pay just as much attention to how often and how much you're eating as you do what you're eating, and exercise, and you'll lose weight.
PS - Please come cook for me.
the food sounds delicious. really really delicious.
