I'm not much of a writer... but I do dream in color
Im telling a friend about how to get to this little hick town Ive been through before. When coming back from area 51, I say. on the dirt road take a left and its a short cut to north of Hwy 375. Itll take you right there. My friend gives me a nod and gets in his car. I follow in mine. He's a nice guy but I couldn't stand him for that long of a drive. I dont even know why Im going. There was nothing out there but sand. When we arrive, my hazy recollection tells me I wasnt in the mountains last time I was here. But never the less, here I am among the cold peaks of the Rockies, far away from the desert. I pay it no mind and go to find my room and board. Im staying with an acquaintance at the college dorm. Walking through the hallways, it looks just like I would imagine a dorm to be. A little dark, a little messy. Its an old building with shag carpet and stained wallpaper. I find the friend of a friend of a friend who is supposed to put me up for a few days and I immediately dont like his tone. Without saying hello, or any semi-formal greeting for that matter, he starts shooting off the rules and regulations the houseguest must abide by. I look past him, through the doorway hes standing in, through his room and out his window and notice clouds shaped like UFOs in the sky. I remember seeing them in Tahoe. I walk away from Sgt. Fuckstick while hes still telling me about ordinance 12, section 4 of the condition for crashing at his pad, and go outside. I see one of the clouds, and then another. Then I see clouds that are shooting like a jet wash across the sky. Turning more to my right, there is the most beautiful sunset Im sure humans have ever witnessed. Its rainbow colored and extremely vivid. Every color known to man, and possibly a few that havent been discovered yet, are painted across the horizon. Just to the left I notice square shapes in the sky each with a different hue. In a calm sort of rational I think to myself, Thats very strange. Ive never seen THAT before. And then it hits me and I fall to the ground, weak, never having seen something so amazing. I turn around to look at the sunset again. Sitting on the dry, rocky sand with my legs out in front of me and my arms behind for support, my mind goes blank, like its been purified. Then, as if ESP is flicking my earlobe, I turn around and see a girl about 30 feet away, walking towards me. She is slender, but with thick, warm clothes, brown hair, and a very average but pretty face. She stops when shes about 10 feet away, to my left and slightly behind. I turn forwards again and utter to her, I dont know what to say. Ive never seen something so beautiful before. She says, Most people havent. with a little chuckle at the end. After a brief pause I ask, Do these happen all the time? No she says and walks over, sits down in front of me and scoots backwards to be in between my legs. Being a little shocked, I think shes a little forward for being a complete stranger. But then again, it was probably the least strange thing of the evening, and she seemed to know I needed someone to witness this with. I think to myself, what the hell. I put my arms around her and look back at the sky.
