So today was a very productive day for me.
So I woke up this morning to go to a martial arts clinic for my self-defense class. Our teacher's sensei had flown in from Japan to honor some of the black belts under his umbrella of dojos that had passed away. Our group was the awkward turtles of the group because we were the only ones not wearing a gi, because our class is less formal in nature. But we got to watch the judo, aikido, karate-do, and kendo groups perform their demonstrations. It was pretty impressive to watch the efficiency and economy of movement some of the higher level students were doing. Made me feel like I was just flailing around out there. Our group also did a little demonstration of what we had learned. I didn't screw up. Yay!
And aside from that, I got to really connect with the few students that had come to the clinic. Which is highly unusual for me to actually do. By the nature of the class there is very little time for chit chat or anything like that, so this was the first time that I really had time to get to know some of the other students from my class.
So that was a lot of fun. Then I came home to visit my family. And I immediately started harassing my brother and sister like old times. Good fun. What was really weird is that the social mood from the clinic sort of carried over to visiting family. They were both talking to people on Skype when I came home, so I just started talking to their friends while they were there. Really out of character for me. We had a lot of fun.
So I really burst out of my social bubble today for the first time in a long time. Feels like I might actually be maturing as a person. Someone help!
